Wow. It was a lot of work and you really cannot tell it from these photos. Friday afternoon I dug the 'trenches' in front of the porch and one down the hill near the road. I started this after the boys and Randy left for their weekend camping trip. I want to surprise them tomorrow! So this morning I got up and bought the plants, soil, and mulch. It took all day--but I think the yard looks good! I have always wanted shrubs....we had one poor attempt after we moved in - almost nineteen years ago, but that was it. Hopefully, I did this right and the shrubs will thrive. In front of the porch (each side) has two azaleas, one Indian Hawthorn (pinkie), one Euonymus (silver king), and one boxwood. Intermingled are colorful celosia....just until the shrubs take off and spread. If we get gutters up, I will be able to put colorful annuals out in front of the shrubbery. In front of Katherine's window I put two azaleas and a dwarf euonymus. There was a gardenia bush on the edge of the porch. Mrs. Foreman gave it to me years ago. Sadly, it died. I think it was too close to the house. I put a Daisy Gardenia in its place (moved out a bit). Actually planted one on the other side of the house as well. Down near the road went five assorted azaleas! I so hope all these live! I don't have a great track record...but can't see why it wouldn't work this time! All together I planted 20 shrubs.
You will have to imagine the old daffodils and the weeds cut.
This hanging basket is called Calibrachoa. It is so pretty!
These are left to plant in pots tomorrow. :-)
