David and his ROV team (Remote Operated Vehicle) competed at Langley Air Force base April 19 along with eleven other teams. They came away with Best Water Mission Score, Best Engineering Evaluation, and Best Overall Score. It was a little worrisome for a while. During the first heat, the battery the team's equipment was connected with kept shorting out their viewing screens. Hard to direct your ROV when you cannot see! They knew their second try (judges take the best of the two) had to be more than perfect. It was! Flawless performance with nine minutes to spare. How wonderful! Made for exciting viewing as well. With their First Place win, they will be going to San Diego, California in June to compete Internationally! David has really enjoyed this project and his team members. I am so glad he was asked to be a part of the team so he can continue with it throughout high school!
